Gifts and Yule

I want to start a tradition of giving Baby Z one Yule gift each year. My only quandry at the moment is that I don't see Yule as a gift-giving holiday. However, my thought was that the gift could be faith-related, something as simple as a plush sun-shaped toy. I also thought it would be a nice idea to have a gift of parent to child, a la the story of Yule -- a continuation of the gift of life. I also considered that we could eventually exchange handmade gifts and in that case I may give her the scarf I've been knitting as her first Yule gift. She can give me "huggies and love."

I like the idea of having a special Yule gift that is more intimate and meaningful than Christmas gifts (which will be toys, fun clothes, puzzles, etc. for many years). I thought it might be a nice tradition to begin. Also it would be a kind of warm-up to Christmas. I've always had my birthday to do that. I would get a doll for my birthday and then, for example, a dollhouse for Christmas.

Anyway, just a thought I wanted to blog.
